Saudade

“Saudade” is the term used to explain the feeling of missing someone or something. I’ve always had difficulty in expressing this feeling as human emotions can become quite sticky and blended. We have happened to find ourselves in a strange and uncertain time. Ultimately stripping the normalcy of our daily lives and leaving us vulnerable to our emotions. Anger. Sadness. Fear. Loneliness. We are left enclosed in our homes for the safety of others and ourselves. I’ve noticed that in times of enclosure, whether we are in school, at the office, or at a family dinner; our gaze will tend to wander to a window. A view of the outside and escape from the forced entrapment. In using the image of a window, I’ve constructed my own to visualize the essential need of human connectivity.”
